Re: Ticket Scalping

Dear Sir/Madam:
I know that you are most likely busy on other important issues, but I and many like me have a big problem.
We can not get concert or sporting event tickets. Or, rather, we can not get them at the box office price.
We can, however buy them from the scalpers, brokers as they prefer to be called now.
It is amazing to me how out of control this business has gotten.

Tickets are selling out within minutes from the time they go on sale. From reading articles, I understand that pre-sale to scalpers
who in turn "ice" (bribe) the ticket clerks is becoming the standard of practice rather than the exception.

There are multiple horror stories to be read on the internet how people were second in line
and could not get a ticket. You can find these stories at just about every bulletin board for recording artists
and sporting fans on the internet.

From what I understand this is now a billion dollar business in the U.S. and becoming a bigger problem every day.

Why has the U.S. government not taken steps at a national level? Why has HR 3951 of 1998 sponsored by Rep. Ackerman not been passed? I believe that the ban on
ticket scalping does need to be nationwide without a provision allowing for sale by brokers or charitable organizations and it does need to be vigorously enforced or concerts and
sporting events as you and I have known them will be a thing of the past for us as well as our children.

I would appreciate it if you would aggressively look into this and get an U.S. Act passed to ban ticket scalping.

I would hate to never attend another concert or sporting in my lifetime, but I refuse to pay this ransom to these scalpers so that I can have some fun.

Thank you for your time,

THE SHORT AND SWEET VERSION:

Dear Sir/Madam:

It was with some concern that I learned that HB 3951 of 1998 sponsored by Rep. Ackerman
"An Act to Prohibit Scalping" was never passed in the U.S. Congress.

I urge you to aggressively pursue the passage of this bill, or one similar to it as I am tired of paying $200 for a $30 ticket to an event, entertainment or sporting.

Tomorrow would not be soon enough.

Very truly yours,
Your constituent,

LETTER TO STATE WITH EXISTING LAW:

Dear Sir/Madam:,

Recently, I have been made aware of certain laws in place in our state that prohibit
the scalping of tickets to entertainment and/or sporting events or the re-sale of the same items by
brokers at more than face value of the tickets.

I have also found out that even though these laws are in place, this practice runs rampant.
Try buying a ticket to an entertainment or major sporting event at any box office and your chance of succeeding is next to none. But a broker or scalper
is sure to be able to get you tickets, at three to four times the listed price. Not only do they raise the price of the tickets,
but they buy them before the public ever has a chance to.

It is incredible that you allow this practice to continue.
Laws are in place and should be followed. You allow the rape of
the consummer by not stepping in and enforcing these laws in some
shape or form. When we vote you into office it is because we believe
that you are going to help better serve our community and not allow for
us to be taken advantage of because we want to attend an event. We go to
these events to enjoy ourselves and have a good time for a day, an evening, a weekend,
having to pay outrageous prices and therefore break the law myself by having to
purchase from a scalper takes the enjoyment out of even going.

I ask that you aggressively pursue the enforcement of this anti-scalping law/or pass
legislation that would provide for the enforcement state wide.

Very truly yours,
Your constituent,

LETTER TO STATE WITHOUT EXISTING LAW:
(can also be used for US legislature)

Dear Sir/Madam: Recently, I have been made aware that there are no laws in place
in our state, or the ones in place are substandard, that prohibit
the scalping of tickets to entertainment and/or sporting events or
the re-sale of the same items by brokers at more than face value of the
tickets.

The practice of scalping/resale of tickets to events continues to
run rampant throughout our great State. Try buying a ticket to an entertainment
or major sporting event at any box office and your chance of succeeding is next to
none. But a broker or scalper is sure to be able to get you tickets, at three to four
times the listed price. Not only do they raise the price of the tickets, but they buy them
before the public ever has a chance to.

It is incredible that you allow this practice to continue. Laws should be enacted and
thereafter should be enforced. You allow the rape of your constituents by not stepping in and
enacting legislation prohibiting the scalping of tickets.

It was with great confidence that when voted you into office it is because we believed that you are going to
help better serve our community and not allow the people of this State to be taken advantage by these vultures
who are making money off the hard work of others, the artists and athletes and their fans.

I ask that you aggressively pursue the enactment of an anti-scalping law along with provisions that would
provide for the enforcement of same state wide.

Very truly yours,
Your constituent,
